The business of the church is to tell and embody a story.
That's what Lesslie Newbigin said in his book, Foolishness to the Greeks.
He's not talking about a building or an institution. He's talking about you. You are the church. You tell and embody the true story of the resurrected Jesus. You do that when you gather for worship at BECAHI each week. You do that when you study the bible in your small group. You do that when you care for each other. And you also tell the story when you leave worship and go home to your neighborhood. You do it when you go to the gym. And to your work or school. And to the IronPigs games. Every day, you (and all of us together) live the good news of Jesus.
Serve Day is in 2 days! That will be a real tangible way that we tell and embody the Jesus story. On Saturday morning, we will gather at our Locust Street campus and scatter throughout Bethlehem to love our city in Jesus' name. Well over 200 of us are already signed up--but we do have a few spots remaining. Don't miss it. Click here to find your spot.
On Sunday after serving Bethlehem, we will wrap up our Serve Bethlehem series. I'll be preaching on Jesus' words in the Sermon on the Mount--"You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world." The people who heard Jesus speak those words the first time went out and lived them. And they changed the world. On Sunday, we will look at all the ways Jesus changed the world--through his followers. His words are a great ending challenge for this series and for us, GRACE CHURCH BETHLEHEM.
Also on Sunday morning, in both services, it will be a privilege to welcome our Bethlehem Mayor Robert Donchez. I am looking forward to hearing from Mayor Donchez and praying for him and our city. We will also take communion together, remembering who we are and whose we are.
It's another not to miss Sunday.
One more thing... I am happy to announce that our name change is finalized. You can now begin to direct all of your giving to GRACE CHURCH BETHLEHEM. Let me say again how important your giving is to the vibrant mission and ministry of our church.
I can't wait for Sunday.
Your pastor and friend,
Dr. Marnie Crumpler, Senior Pastor
